Subject:Too Much Quietness
Security:Public

After a fairly good start to the week on Monday, the rest has been a bit downhill from there. The supervisor at Oakwood on Monday decided to change all my shifts this week from Wood Green to Oakwood for sunlight duties - and, of course, there hasn't been a glimpse of sunshine since. Well - I exaggerate a little. I was down there for a little bit on Tuesday but none on Wednesday or today. Even on Tuesday the supervisor - the same one who had wanted me there *for* sunlight - seemed to be doing his utmost best to get me *out* of having to do it. Whenever I went and did a check and the driver said that he couldn't see the monitor, he'd tell me check the next one. And the next one. And the next. Gah! Drove me absolutely nuts.

Yesterday I had the excitement of more training on the new Connect radios, which look like a mobile phone and a radio went into a corner and did the dirty, birthing this new hybrid. In theory it all sounds well and good but we'll have to see how things actually turn out when they go live, which won't actually be until some point in July, I believe.

I also helped detrain a few stablers and reversers; for one of the former I went back upstairs to the office once I was done (since I had sod all else to do) and a few minutes later the door opened, the supervisor looked up as a train driver came in and said, "I'm not talking to you" then looked to me and said "Thanks for helping me detrain" in a really, really odd way! I'm not sure if I mucked something up and he was being sarcastic, or what.

After work on Tuesday I went to Arnos to see if I could finally get various things sorted out like some days I need off in September, a car parking permit, and leaving a note for my DSM about some spares I have coming up. As usual I left the office feeling like an idiot and having sorted nothing. The day had already got me in a fairly miserable mood since I'd had almost nothing to do and I'd made a few stupid errors, and by the time I was back down on the platform at Arnos I was in the "Oh hell why did I ever want this job?" state and getting worse. I was sulking down towards the head of the train when the driver (they frequently swap over at Arnos) came up behind me, asked where I was going and when I said Cockfosters, jokingly asked if I wanted a lift, so I got a cab ride, and we were joined by a DMT at Oakwood. I forgave the Underground for everything after that.

Today was quiet; the morning supervisor was late in so I sat in the office and pretended to be in charge for a while. I did do detrainment for a stabler and for one reverser. The next time a stabler was due in, though, I was sitting in the office with nothing to do when the call came through but the supervisor said he wasn't going to bother with detraining it and to let the driver do it. I could understand if it had meant dragging the other CSA off the gateline or something but I was there with nothing whatsoever to do at that point in time...!
