A lonnnnnng shift at a quiet station today. The first few hours were spent down on the platform overseeing the peak; after my break I did gateline for a while, but there were three of us there, and it only really needs one. I went round and did lots of very slow station and platform checks (and actually found: a broken window, a poster falling off the wall, and an out of date information poster, so for once it didn't feel like a complete waste of time), and then while I was down on the platform at one point I got a call from the supervisor asking me to go tell the driver of train 305 that he was going into the sidings. Which thoroughly confused the poor chap because he'd just been told to run empty to Cockfosters. What actually happened was that a fitter was around to check the defect (which was the train's PA not working correctly) and it reversed to Uxbridge. Hurrah. Still, that took up a nice bit of time and after that my official assignment from the station supervisor was "walk around looking busy". So I did.
It's now my "weekend" for the next two days, after which I've got a run of 7am shifts, including some at the only station on our group that I've not yet worked at. Excitement!
