I got back a short while ago from my last late in a string of six of them... I am so ready for bed. Instead here's a quick rundown, possibly to be expanded on later...
We had engineering work on our end of the Piccadilly Line this weekend and I was working at the cut off station, where passengers had to change to the replacement bus service. I was there Friday as well but the engineering work was only on Saturday and Sunday. Obviously we had a few extra staff stationed there, although apparently the bulk were allocated to the morning - despite Saturday evening being chaos. In fact, for the last hour, the only station staff were myself and the supervisor, although we did have a lot of train drivers and a couple of DMT's around as well. Good thing too since we had to haul a few people off the trains. We had one chap who had to be dragged off, and he then proceeded to sleep (and pick his nose...) on a platform bench for over two hours before we got the BTP out to remove him. Another one nearly wandered straight over the edge of the platform. Twice. We had to keep dragging him back and guiding where he walked.
On Friday someone vomited all over one of the escalators - luckily we had two set going up so it wasn't so much hassle taking it out of service for the cleaner to sort it out as it could have been. There was also someone knocked over by a car across the road from the station entrance, which was attended by loads of police and the road blocked off, so that provided plenty of drama. On Saturday someone kindly left a bag of vomit on the floor near the bottom of the escalators, and later on someone decided to relieve themselves on the (empty, since the last train that direction had gone) westbound platform. Today someone spilt something all over the floor at the top of the up escalator. Fun, fun, fun!
We had a couple of whiteboards up with directions to the replacement bus service but that didn't stop everyone from asking, even though they were right opposite the exit barriers. And the number of people who walked past four signs saying there was no Eastbound service without realising was quite astonishing.
I got the drivers' taxi back both nights which was fun, since it meant I got dropped off at the drivers' depot instead of the station car park where my car actually was. I'd have appreciated it more had my legs not been dead from rushing up and down the platform for so long...!
